The Safe City Partnership is a group of organisations that have got together to reduce crime and the fear of crime in Southampton. Among it's main members are the police and city council but there are many others too such as health groups and Hampshire Fire and Rescue. A good deal of the long term Operation Phoenix work is being undertaken by the partnership. |

The Police in Southampton are fronting Operation Phoenix. More than 600 officers and staff were involved in the first phase bringing in officers from around the county and 800 in Phoenix III. Almost all staff in the Southampton Police area have been involved in Phoenix in one way or another. They will continue in their work. |

Crimestoppers have been involved in the publicity side of the project. Their anonymous phone line is used on all the posters, leaflets and other advertising to encourage people to phone in with information about drug related crime in the area. The anonymity of knowing their call can't be traced and that no one knows who is calling has meant more people phone in with information. There was a 250% increase in calls in the Southampton area to Crimestoppers during the immediate month after the intital Phoenix raids. |
